Date Three

Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - Run Away Together

When we first got this card I was so excited!! It sounded like so much fun. The more we dissected this card, the more changes we had to make to it. We followed the card's directions and did not plan a day for this date. This made it really difficult to have a good time for this date!! I think we are learning that planning is key to making these dates really work, even if it tells us to be spontaneous about it all. Not planning a certain day/time for this date allowed our schedules to take over. Jobs and life took over and before we knew it, the week had gone by without any free time to just 'take off' somewhere. Plus, not knowing where you are going to go makes it hard to know how much time the date will take. Of course we had an hour or two of free time here and there, but was that enough time for this date? Not knowing or having a plan allowed us to pass through the week and not accomplish our date. The weekend filled up and before we knew it, we were into the next week without a date to write about. The way things were looking, we weren't going to get this date accomplished at all. Finally, Tuesday night we were laying in bed about to go to sleep when we thought, why not? Let's do it now. It was about 12:30 in the morning and we headed out on the road. Now, we had to make a few adjustments to this date card because I have a very sensitive boyfriend. His weenyness can't handle those trains and moving around because he gets motion sickness, so we knew starting out that we were going to have to just use the car to go someplace. I wish we could have taken the greyhound bus, because I have never done that before, but I knew it wasn't worth having a sickly (or drowsy from Dremamine) boyfriend. So, I grabbed some caffeine-loaded soft drinks and Twizzlers, got into the car at 12:30 am, and headed....to nowhere. We (well, I) drove West on the Lloyd Expressway all the way to Mount Vernon. He refused to drive for some reason, even though I can't see at night while driving, especially while wearing my glasses, which make me feel like I'm driving drunk, I don't know why. We talked and talked...I don't even think we turned on the radio. We talked about everything from bugs to the future. I love talking with Justin, and it's something we don't do a whole lot. It's amazing at what we can find to talk about. Random, weird, and serious things. We drove all the way into Mount Vernon until I saw a sign for a toll booth in 7 miles. And cops everywhere. They were EVERYWHERE! Mount Vernon is about 5 minutes long with only one main street and we saw three cops. They are just creepy, sitting there in the dark, waiting, watching. Creepy. So, we turned around and headed back home. All in all, it was about a little more than an hour and a half worth of driving. Not too shabby of a trip! And definitely not a typical date. It was spontaneous, fun, and we connected, so it was a definite success :) JUSTIN

I had several days picked out to utilize this card. Each day fell through. One day I was going to pick up Amanda from work and just go, but we had some celebrating to do so I scrapped that. The next time I decided to try Amanda was rear-ended in traffic by some dum dum so I figured she would want to come home and show Fred Squared the damage.

Later that night, we were laying in bed when we decided to just get up and go. I think it was 12:30 am. We hopped in the car and started heading west toward Mt. Vernon.

On our journey, we basically talked about old times and things we plan on doing in the future. I talked about my love of killing lightning bugs and writing on my arm with their light and she talked about her love of saving them. I guess opposites attract :)

We demolished the rest of some twizzlers that were lying around and we drank some caffeinated drinks to keep us energized. We drove around for about an hour and a half and we decided to call it a night.

I couldn't have asked for a better date :). It was completely spontaneous and that's the way we like it. If only it weren't so cold we could have gotten out and looked at the stars. Maybe next time. I'm looking forward to the rest of the dates.
